フィオナさん一家について About Fíodhna, Ruán & Pádraig
フィオナさんと旦那さんのパトリック、息子のルーアン君の３人はアイルランドのティペレァリーというところに住んでいます。
フィオナさんのお父さんはボビー・ガーディナーさんという著名なクレア出身のアコーディオン/ メロディオン奏者で、1950 年代にはかの有名なキルフェノーラ・ケーリーバンドでも活躍され、長くコーク大学でアイルランド伝統音楽を教えてきた、いわばアイルランド伝統音楽界の至宝のような方で、過去に来日もされました。
フィオナさんは、ティンホイッスルとローホイッスルを演奏し、パトリックさんとフィオナさんは、中東に住んでいた頃、「イニシア」というバンドのメンバーであり、アブダビにあるアイルランド大使館の開館式で、メアリー・マカリース大統領やミホール・マーティン（当時財務大臣、現アイルランド首相）をはじめとするアイルランド政府高官の前で演奏しました。フィオナさんはテレビやラジオ番組に出演し、彼女のスローエアの1曲がアイルランドの映画で取り上げられ、ソロのスローエアのCDも録音しています。彼女の息子ルーアン君は歌の才能があり、2024年の「Scór na bpáistí」コンテストで優勝グループの一員となり、今年はMunster Fleadh Cheoilにシンギング部門で出場しました。パトリックさんはScórのバラード部門優勝者で、ギターとピアノを演奏し歌も歌います。一家は地元ティペレァリー州バリナーで自宅やパブのセッションで音楽活動を行っていて、フィオナさんとパトリックさんはリムリック大学で勤務しています。
今回、家族旅行で日本に来られるとのことでこの企画が実現しました。日本のミュージシャン達との交流や日本文化に触れるのをとても楽しみにされています。今回のワークショップでは、フィオナさんにスローエアを、ルーアン君に歌を習います。特にスローエアに特化したワークショップでは聴き取る力、魅力的なフレーズ作り、リズムが無い曲をどのように情感豊かに表現するか、装飾音、そして生きたアイルランド文化の一片を捉えることを目的としています。必要に応じて通訳をつけますので英語が苦手な方もご遠慮なくご参加下さい。アイルランドで教わるのと同じように、口承で教わることが出来る貴重な機会です。
Fíodhna, her husband Pádraig, and their son Ruán live in Tipperary, Ireland.
Fíodhna's father, Bobby Gardiner, is a famous accordion and melodeon player from Clare. He was active in the legendary Kilfennora Céilí Band in the 1950s and taught Irish traditional music at University College Cork for many years. He is a treasure of the Irish traditional music world and has visited Japan in the past.
Fíodhna plays tinwhistle and low whistle. Padraig and Fíodhna were part of a band called ‘Inis Oirr’ while living in the Middle East and performed for the opening of the Irish embassy in Abu Dhabi with Irish government officials, including President Mary McAleese and Mícheál Martin(then Minister for Finance and current Taoiseach of Ireland). Fiodhna has performed on TV and radio programmes, has featured in an Irish film with one of her slow airs and she has recorded a solo slow airs CD. Her son, Ruán has a flair for singing and was part of the winning group for ‘Scór na bpáistí’ competition in 2024 and he competed this year in the Munster Fleadh Cheoil for Irish singing. Padraig, a Scór ballad group winner plays guitar and piano and sings. The family play music locally in house and pub sessions in Ballina, Co. Tipperary. Fiodhna and Pádraig work at the University of Limerick.
This project came about because they are visiting Japan on a family trip. They are very much looking forward to interacting with Japanese musicians and experiencing Japanese culture. In this workshop,In this workshop, Fíodhna will teach us slow airs, which involve developing listening, expressive phrasing and emotional sensitivity to capture free rhythm, ornamentation, and a living piece of Irish culture, and Ruán will teach us songs. An interpreter will be available if needed, so please don't hesitate to participate even if you are not confident in your English. This is a valuable opportunity to learn by ear tradition, just as you would in Ireland.
